The Sun – Composition, viewing and Total Eclipse 2024
About the Talk
This talk will look at the makeup of the Sun and the various methods to view the sun safely. It will cover recent eclipses and the upcoming total eclipse in the USA in April 2024.
About this month’s speaker
This month’s speaker is Steve Harwood.
He says “I have been interested in space astronomy since a young lad watching the Apollo missions in the early 1970’s getting more interested in the last 15 years having received a 900mm Skywatcher refractor telescope as a birthday present. My interest in Solar Astronomy increased when I had the opportunity to watch the 2017 Total Eclipse in Wyoming with a basic DSLR camera and filter attached.
I travel with my work and take every opportunity to visit sites related to astronomy wherever I go.”

Anyone is welcome – beginner or expert – and there is no need to pre-book. A small charge applies to help us cover costs (typically £3 for non-members; £2 for NEAS members; U16s free). Doors open at 7.30pm with the talk starting at 8.00pm.
